We simply have too much “stuff”. But unused goods can have a second life in the hands of people who need them. Whenever possible, try to think of what you can share. And think about promoting this concept with everyone you know, so that you can multiply the impact of what you are doing manifold: remember that often people do not give things away simply because they do not think of it or because they do not know how to do it – you can solve that problem.

Many churches and other religious organizations collect goods that they then re-dispatch to the needy. Look also for local red cross or other charitable organizations

For example Oxfam sells on clothes and other accessories donated by individuals:

In the UK you can bring goods to a local donation shop or “bank” www.oxfam.org.uk/what_you_can_do/index.htm

in Germany www.oxfam.de/a_51_sachen_spenden.asp?me=51

Recycle used materials (phones, computers) that will then be refurbished and reused in developing countries.

In the UK Oxfam does it www.oxfam.org.uk/what_you_can_do/recycle/index.htm

Other large organizations such as Care International do similar things www.care.org/donate/donatephone_home.asp

www.collectivegood.com/index.asp does it for mobile phones in the US

www.throwplace.com/ is a repository of information about where to send unused goods, and where to source them from

Donate your car, van, truck, vehicle -
In the US and in Canada (maybe also elsewhere) you can donate your car to a charity that receives a direct financial contribution by selling your car. This is a tax-deductible contribution. Search for 'donate your car' with Google and you will find several organisations which help you doing it. Try http://dir.yahoo.com/Recreation/Automotive/Charitable_Vehicle_Donation/

www.give.org/tips/usedcar.asp gives recommendations about what to check when planning to donate a car to a charity. Useful reflections on the topic !

Other options are available by using the internet search engines e.g. http://dir.yahoo.com/Society_and_Culture/Issues_and_Causes/Philanthropy/
