Kanyakumari, Cape Comorin, is the southernmost tip of India, where the oceans converge and mix.

It is also one of the holiest spots in the entire country, a place where the ashes of Mahatma Ghandi where held for a little while before being dispersed in the water as he asked before his death.

It is one of the most religious places in the subcontinent, with even a sizeable Christian churches contends the skyline to temples and fishermen's houses.

Families come from all over India to bathe and perform ritual ablutions, or simply enjoy the eerie atmosphere of the place.

Understanding the all-pervasive effect of religion on Indian society helps to be more lucid and effective in allocating help. Have more details in our "what you can do" section.
