This virtual
exhibition (best seen with Internet Explorer) narrates the story and the life of common Afghan people
through a combination of compelling, arresting pictures and non-fiction
content. The narrative vision is centered on “taking the reader for a stroll”
in The Afghan portraits (about
50 black and white pictures) act as a backbone and were taken in November
2003 in The main issues explored are poverty, education, health, war and
history of social strife, religion and social customs, narcotics production,
daily life in a hostile environment, and their impact on children and women.
Against this human backdrop, the role of international help in the
reconstruction is discussed. Ultimately, the exhibition seeks
to help the Western reader visualize
